One of the strongest documented facts from Schmoll’s later life is his 1988 SAFE Association Meritorious Service Award.
SAFE Association’s official historical awards page lists:
1988 — Harry W. Schmoll8
under the Meritorious Service Award category.
SAFE defines the award as being presented to a person or persons demonstrating a recent outstanding contribution to survival through courage or bravery.8
This wording is important. It means the award should not be described merely as a general lifetime-achievement honor unless the original citation proves otherwise. SAFE’s definition suggests a particular act, achievement, or contribution relatively close to 1988.
